A health representative speaks about combatting racism at a UK event – Department of Health

The Ministry's Advisor for Racial Justice, Luis Eduardo Batista, gave the opening lecture at the International Symposium on Equality in Brazil. In addition to the Brazilian contribution, the event included speakers such as the Director of the National Program for Improving Health Inequalities in England, Professor Paula Owolabi, and the Medical Director of Health for the City of Toronto (Canada), Eileen de Villa. .

According to Battista, one of the interests of the British Health Service was to understand the process of formulating the National Policy for Comprehensive Health for the Black Population (PNSIPN), which included the active participation of movements representing the black community and the Brazilian quilombola community.

“This call gave me the feeling that we are able to contribute to health systems in other countries, especially with regard to civil society participation in formulating, evaluating and monitoring public health policies,” he asserts.
