The list of Democratic politicians calling on US President Joe Biden to drop out of the presidential race continues to grow. So far, 34 members of Congress from the party have publicly called on Biden to end his reelection bid — 12 of them in the past 24 hours alone. (See list below)
They represent more than one in ten Democrats in the US Congress, where Biden's Democratic Party controls 213 seats in the House of Representatives and 51 in the Senate.
Biden finds himself in one of the most stressful moments of his candidacy. Despite his team's efforts to calm nerves in the Democratic Party, which has been in crisis since the president's poor performance in the debate against Donald Trump, more and more party politicians are calling for his resignation. Biden is currently considering whether to leave the race for the White House, according to sources close to him. (Read more below)
The first Democratic politician to publicly call on Biden to drop his nomination was Rep. Lloyd Doggett, on July 2, less than a week after the debate, on June 27.
In all, 12 of the 34 Democratic members of Congress joined the withdrawal chorus on Friday alone (19), one day after the Republican National Convention, which reinforced the current contradiction between the two largest American parties, and reports that Biden seems to have accepted the idea and must give in, according to sources close to him.

According to the report, sources confirmed that Biden is considering the possibility of losing to Donald Trump in the November elections. However, the president has not yet made a decision.
Democrats also fear that insisting on Biden's nomination will undermine the party's chances of winning a majority in the House of Representatives. According to the Washington Post, Nancy Pelosi told lawmakers that she believes Biden will be convinced to give up “very soon.”
