Confusion rocked the northern stage in the latter part of the first – already turbulent – day of Planeta Brasil, apparently the result of a feud between the event organizer and US rapper band 50 Cent, the awaited end star of the night at Esplanada do Brasil. Mineiro, in Belo Horizonte.
After the highly competent Sticky Fingers show, in which the members’ picturesque looks attracted as much attention as the music, California rapper Ty Dolla $ign took the stage. He gave a short presentation, supported almost entirely by pre-recorded bases and vocals, although there were instruments on stage, which were not used, except for drums.
During the Ty Dolla $ign show, dozens of people, possibly guests, took over the area in front of the stage, intended for the press. At the end of the show, at the request of 50 Cent, no one else could stay in this place, not even journalists.
There was the beginning of riots, as security guards kicked people out, and some of them resisted. When the area was finally evacuated, 50 Cent, who was a huge hit in the 2000s, took to the stage with his partners. A large part of the audience sang with him at his first show in Belo Horizonte.
Backed by a massive structure, which other artists didn’t count on – stage set – the rap star attracted the biggest audience on Saturday (24/9). The most anticipated show was on the first day of the festival.
50 Cent sang his career songs. Not spared in quotations from personalities such as d. Dre and Eminem, American hip-hop reference. He gave the long-awaited show and showed that it is, yes, one of the greatest performances in rap music, at the age of 47.
Ego and paranoia
However, the impression that the entire scheme created around the artist resonated with the purified equation of ego and paranoia. To give you an idea, while the rapper was in the box, the circulation of several nearby entries stopped.
Earlier, the delay and disorganization at Planeta Brasil angered many people who came to Esplanada do Mineiro. People complained about missing shows they wanted to attend due to changing schedules.
Shows took place about an hour later than initially announced. In the afternoon, the audience complained of chaos. The gates opened around 3pm, three hours later than expected. Huge queues formed.
Shows of at least eight artists have been canceled on Saturday (24/9) and Sunday (25/9): Poze do Rodo, Bin, Borges, Chefin, Oruam, Orochi, PL Quest and Bielzin. According to Mainstreet, this was due to a “contractual breach by the contractor.”
On social media, Burgess stated that the cancellation was due to issues with the organization of Planeta Brasil.
This Sunday (25/9), the last day of the festival, concerts by Lauren Hill, Marina Sina, KVSH, Julian Marley, FBC and VHOOR, 2 Chains, Jetlag, Marcelo Falco, Cat Dealers, McGalia, Black Allen, Jovim Dionsio, Chico Chico, Baco Exu do Blues, and Filipe Ret, among other artists.
