“Assim Vivemos – International Film Festival on Disability” returns to CCBB Rio in mixed format – Folha da Região

Twenty-nine new films from 14 countries are part of the event program with free admission. Four debates will be online

“Asim Fifimos – International Film Festival on Disability” – the most important and longest-running film event on this topic – is organizing its 10th edition at Banco do Brasil Cultural Centers in Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia and São Paulo.

CCBB Rio is the first to host the event, between September 22nd and October 11th, in a mixed format: with virtual face-to-face sessions.

The program includes 29 productions from 14 countries, divided between short, medium and feature films, and four online debates will take place. This was achieved by the Banco do Brasil Cultural Centre, sponsored by Banco do Brasil through the Cultural Incentives Act, and produced by Cinema Falado Produções.

This release features works from Brazil, the United States, Russia, and Spain, and films from each of the following countries: Argentina, Australia, Canada, Kazakhstan, Costa Rica, the Netherlands, Iran, Israel, Italy, and the United Kingdom.

The products tell stories with rich and varied characters. people who pursue their dreams; who demand to be heard by society; who express themselves through art or share the paths of the struggle for their rights. Topics such as inclusive education, gender and sports are also covered.

“It gives us great pleasure to make it to the 10th edition of this very important festival that follows the achievements, struggles, losses and gains made by people with disabilities over the past two decades. “Asim Fifimos” is a transformative event, which always provides a space for people with disabilities to tell their own stories, Through films and discussions. We are preparing a beautiful edition and this time with debates and some films are also available online, thus expanding the reach of everyone”, comments Graciela Pozzubon, Director of the Festival.

The public will be able to participate in two ways: at the CCBB Rio Movie Theater or by accessing virtually part of the program. The cultural center has reopened since September last year and in accordance with health standards, it is ready to receive everyone safely. Tickets must be collected at the box office on the same day of the exhibition or on the website (www.eventim.com.br).

From September 22 to October 4, the China Construction Bank (CCBB) will host in-person sessions. Online sessions will be gradually made available. Each week, films related to the weekly discussions will be featured on the festival’s website, and last week, there will be an additional session.

The 29 films are divided into 12 programmes, ranging in length from 57 to 94 minutes. Each day, three personal sessions will be presented with the entire program and nine products will be available on the festival website, seven of which relate to the themes discussed: the power of art, education for all, collaborative partnership, research and voice. Persons with disabilities and experts participate in the discussions. The participation link will be available on the festival website (www.assimvivemos.com.br) on the day of the meeting.

The films will feature accessibility features such as audio description and LSE (deaf and deaf) subtitles, as well as interpretation in pounds. The live discussions will be translated in Egyptian pounds and made available free of charge through the website, as well as the festival’s digital catalog containing information, film summaries and full programmes.

Five awards from the jury and one from the audience will be presented to the selected film in the three cities. Members of the jury are people with disabilities, artists and professionals, and in each edition, the jury creates new award categories in order to highlight the specific qualities of the awarded films. The trophy was made by the blind artist, Virginia Vendramini. The general trend is Graciela Pozzobon.
