The Prime Minister of Sudan is under house arrest;  Activists condemn the military coup |  Globalism

Prime Minister SudanAnd Abdallah Hamdok, is under house arrest by an unknown military group that surrounded his house in the capital, Khartoum, on Monday morning (25), according to Al-Hadath channel. Four other ministers and a member of the Sovereignty Council, which controls the government, were arrested.

Leaders of the pro-democracy movement spoke of a coup and called on the population to take to the streets. Protesters set tires on fire in parts of Khartoum by demonstrators carrying the Sudanese flag. Military and paramilitary forces accompany the protests.

Al Arabiya TV, based in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, reported the closure of Khartoum airport and the suspension of international flights. The internet was cut off in the Sudanese capital.

The Ministry of Information said that soldiers raided the headquarters of a television station in the city of Omdurman, in the capital Khartoum region, and arrested the station’s employees.

The Sudan Professionals Alliance, which leads the coalition of activists in the uprising against Omar al-Bashir, who ruled Sudan between 1989 and 2019, called for a general strike and civil disobedience over what it described as a “military coup”.

Sudan is currently living with a government composed of civilians and military, political tension with polarization. A group of protesters defends the civilian government and wants the military to leave power. Another asks a military government to get the country out of the crisis.

Sudanese officials and international leaders warn of the scale of tension in the country, which has already been shaken by the failed coup attempt on September 21.
