The Minister of Health, Marcelo Quiroga, received protests during his visit to the University of Lisbon in Portugal this Tuesday morning (26/10).
The cardiologist has an agenda in Europe during the week, and this morning he gave a lecture at the Portuguese educational institution. At the university’s entrance, demonstrators held signs that read “Kiroga genocide.”
The work was coordinated by collective swallow, formed by Brazilians residing in Lisbon, the Portuguese capital. The group’s posters also criticized President Jair Bolsonaro (non-partisan).
“By inviting a denier who did direct action in the deaths of more than 600,000 Brazilians, are we arresting for academic freedom or are we giving space to deploy early treatment kits, hydroxychloroquine, ineffective vaccines and herd immunity?” Social networks, on the eve of the demonstration.
During the event, Quiroga praised the actions of Jair Bolsonaro’s government in the face of the Covid pandemic. Even with 605,000 deaths from the disease recorded, the minister stated that the president’s administration is “paying special attention to life.”
He noted that “President Bolsonaro’s government is paying special attention to life from its conception to life that is slowly fading away.”

The minister also used the speech to lament the deaths caused by the disease and to show solidarity with the families of the victims.

During the lecture, Quiroga did not mention the Parliamentary Covid-19 Inquiry Committee (CPI) in the Federal Senate.
This Tuesday, Senator Renan Caleros (MDB-AL), rapporteur of the CPI, will read the final version of the report that the committee will vote on. The document calls for an indictment of 76 people – including President Jair Bolsonaro (without a party), the children of Flavio, Carlos and Eduardo Bolsonaro and Health Minister Marcelo Quiroga – and two companies.
As announced by the commission on Monday (25/10), the report also calls for the president’s removal from social networks “in order to ensure public order and protect the Brazilian people”.
Voting on the report will continue on Tuesday and, in principle, it will be delivered on Wednesday (27/10) to the Public Prosecutor’s Office (PGR), which will be responsible for conducting investigations with defendants in a privileged jurisdiction. The document will also be sent to the Federal Public Prosecution Office’s First Instance (MPF), which will investigate people who do not have jurisdiction.

Marcelo Quiroga has an agenda in Europe until the end of the week. In addition to the lecture at the University of Lisbon, the Minister must participate in a bilateral meeting with representatives of the Portuguese Ministry of Health and make a technical visit to the Contact Center of the National Health Service and the Directorate General of Health.
He will then head to the UK, where he will visit the Oxford University Center for Clinical Vaccines and Tropical Medicine and AstraZeneca’s Research and Development Center on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. She will also participate in a bilateral meeting with representatives of the State Secretariat for Health and Social Welfare.
