Sputnik – The official representative of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Major General Igor Konashenkov, said that the forces of the Donetsk People’s Republic had captured the city of Volnovakia.
“Units of the forces of the Donetsk People’s Republic liberated the city of Volnovakha,” the general said.
He added that the forces of the Donetsk People’s Republic also took control of the villages of Olzhinka, Velika Anadol and Zelni Gay and advanced about six kilometers inland.
According to Konashenkov, “the military units of the Donetsk Republic continue to tighten the siege around Mariupol. The general advance in the eastern, northern and western directions was up to 800 meters.”
Eduard Basurin, a spokesman for the military forces of the Donetsk People’s Republic, said that the release of Volnovaka is a small victory that will lead to the establishment of control over the city of Mariupol.
Previously, Donetsk forces captured several villages in the region in a counterattack against Ukrainian forces.
