US begins training Ukrainians in Germany

The United States began training the Ukrainian armed forces in Germany. The information was released by the US Department of Defense today, during a press conference.

These efforts “will build on the initial artillery training that Ukrainian forces have already received elsewhere,” John Kirby said. Ukrainians will also be trained in the use of radar systems and armored vehicles, which were recently announced as part of security assistance packages.

According to Kirby, Germany is one of about three sites the United States uses to train Ukrainians abroad. But the spokesman did not disclose the others.

In addition, he made it clear that “most of the exercises” will be conducted by the Florida National Guard. These soldiers were already training the Ukrainians before the Russian invasion.

“The recent meeting of members of the Florida National Guard with their Ukrainian counterparts, we are told, was an emotional reunion given the strong bonds formed while living and working together prior to the temporary separation in February,” Kirby said.
