Russia said it bombed a missile factory in Kyiv on Sunday, calling news that the attack hit a residential area of the Ukrainian capital “false”.
The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement that the Artyom weapons factory “was the target of the bombing as a military infrastructure,” explaining that the damage to a neighboring apartment building was caused by a Ukrainian missile.
The Defense Ministry insisted that “Russian forces attacked civilian targets in Kyiv = wrong.” He added that the Russian missile “exactly hit the workshops of the Artyom factory.”
The ministry also indicated that the damage to the adjacent building was caused by a Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile. He said that “the damage was not only from above, but also from below, which confirms the autumn version” of a Ukrainian defensive missile.
This claim cannot be independently verified.
According to the Ukrainian authorities, one person was found dead and four others were taken to hospital after the dawn bombing in a neighborhood near the center of Kyiv.
