São Paulo, SB (Fulhabres) – The Brazilian Football Confederation and the Argentine Football Association have announced an agreement to cancel the match between Brazil and Argentina. The match was halted shortly after its start, in September 2021, when health staff went to the pitch to turn away Argentine athletes who had entered São Paulo infrequently.
These players, three of whom are alviceleste, are from the UK. At the time, people who arrived from the site needed to undergo a period of isolation in Brazil, as part of prevention efforts against Covid-19. Then the duel stopped, and since then there has been no solution.
It arrived this week, when the Confederation and FIFA (International Football Association) reached an agreement on the confrontation – which will make no difference to the World Cup qualification rankings. Thus, the judgment set forth in the CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) would not be necessary.
Says the memorandum published by the Brazilian Federation, in a text very similar to that publication, in Spanish, by the Argentine Association.
A fine of 300,000 Swiss francs (1.6 million Brazilian reals) was imposed on the joint border force. In the case of the AFC, the value in the agreement with FIFA was 150,000 Swiss francs (800,000 Brazilian reais). Half of these fines will be suspended for a two-year probationary period. The other half must now be paid, and part of it will go to the World Health Organization (WHO), to support the fight against Covid-19.
The president of the Brazilian Football Confederation, Edenaldo Rodriguez, initially showed himself against any agreement. He intended to take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, but complied with a request from the Technical Committee. Tite did not respond to an uncertain situation and said that he would like to occupy the match date (September 22) with a preparatory friendly match for the World Cup in Qatar.
