The number of Covid-19 cases involving the omicron variant has increased in the United Kingdom and the United States, health authorities in both countries have reported. Development will, above all, be associated with a specific subtype: BA.4.6

UK Department of Health Care issued a statement Among total infections of Covid-19, the number of cases of this sub-variant increased from 3.3% in August to 9% in September.

Additionally, BA.4.6 represents 10% of all Covid-19 cases in the US, according to US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), cases of this sub-variant have already been confirmed in 70 countries, including Brazil.

Although it is not yet known exactly how this happened, scientists believe that it is the result of a recombination, which occurs when the same person is infected with two different types of Covid at the same time.
