DAZN acquired rival Eleven Sports after failing to buy BT Sport
DAZN, Wednesday (15), completed the purchase of Eleven Sports. the operation, which had started in September last yearwill help build the broadcast platform’s growth strategy by expanding the global live sports offering.
The purchase also includes North American social media creative agency Team Whistle, with the goal of increasing social reach and fan engagement.
With over 700 million followers across all channels and a distribution network generating 5 billion views per month, Team Whistle’s social reach and strategy will help DAZN increase its engagement with new and existing audiences alike. The agency will leverage DAZN’s talent for creating off-platform value, building audiences and driving fans to paid services and content.
With this agreement, DAZN became the largest European sports rights holder. In addition to offering popular local sports content in Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom, the platform is adding Belgium, Portugal and Taiwan. In the case of Belgium, it now includes the national football league (Jupiler Pro League), as well as other international content. Portugal adds major international soccer rights to DAZN’s portfolio, such as the Champions League and Premier League, while Taiwan owns the domestic baseball championship.
