Initial sales of the Forspoken are lower than expected

Square Enix spoke for the first time about the performance of its latest releases and considered that many of them did not meet initial sales expectations.

In a report talking about releases between April 2022 and January 2023, in which Forspoken is included, with one week of sales, Yosuke Matsuda (Square Enix President) He said The criticisms of the game were harsh, but there is also plenty of praise woven into the parkour and magic gameplay.

“However, sales were disappointing, and while the performance of new games released in February and March is key, we see the risk of lower revenue for this current fiscal quarter.”

Matsuda says that many of the small and mid-sized games they have released have not met sales expectations, and that compared to titles released in the previous year, it results in lower revenue recorded in this HD video game division.

DioField Chronicle, Valkyrie Elysium, Harvestella, Star Ocean: The Divine Force, and Dragon Quest Treasures are all suitable as possible candidates for the games Matsuda refers to but only mentions Forspoken by name.

Octopath Traveler 2 and Theatrhythm: Final Bar Line arrived in February and are not yet included in this report.
