In a statement published this Thursday afternoon (30), Fugini admitted that it used expired ingredients in the production of mayonnaise, and for this reason, it is recalling (recalling) items that are not fit for consumption.
On Wednesday (29), Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) has already announced about Suspension of manufacture, distribution, sale and use of branded products.
Refund is only valid for mayonnaise-type products that expire in December 2023 that come from batch number 354 and any mayonnaise batch that has an expiration date scheduled for January, February, or March 2024.
On a note, the company states that “due to an operational error,” items to be collected were manufactured with annatto after the expiration date. The ingredient is used to color the product, and according to Fujini, the amount used “represents 0.003% of the formulation” of the mayonnaise.

“Due to an operational error, this range of products has been manufactured with the addition of the ingredient annatto (a natural color-giving agent) which is 0.003% of the formulation past its expiry date,” the company completed.
The brand has reported that the entire Fugini product line, which also produces tomato sauces, mustard, ketchup and preserves, “continues to be sold normally at retail points.”
Anvisa’s comment
On Wednesday, Anvisa has already announced the suspension of the manufacture, distribution, sale and use of Fugini products, after discovering failures deemed critical in the manufacturing process of the brand’s products.
In an inspection conducted at the food company’s headquarters, the agency identified GMP problems — the rules that companies in the food sector must follow — related to product hygiene, quality control and raw material safety, pest control, and traceability, among other flaws.
“These defects can affect the quality and integrity of the final product,” Anvisa reported through a note. The measure, according to the agency, is a preventive measure and the suspension of production and sale of the brand’s products will be in effect until the company adapts its manufacturing process to the rules of good manufacturing practices.
Shortly after the announcement, also on Wednesday, Fujini posted a note denying the recall and warning that the issues Anvisa had identified had already been resolved. But in a statement on Thursday, the company came back, admitting to using expired raw materials and announcing the need to collect the mayonnaise.
