“Dogs away from alcohol is our number one priority,” describes the company’s profile on social networks Woodside Animal Rescue TrustBy introducing the story of Koko, a two-year-old brown lab in the United Kingdom who is addicted to alcohol.
The dog was taken to the clinic with another dog after its owner died. According to reports from the group, shortly after arrival, the two became so ill that a veterinarian had to visit them.
While Coco required 24-hour treatment and follow-up, the other dog did not survive despite the team’s efforts to save him.
The team continued to monitor Coco until experts noticed she was showing signs of alcoholism. “He was sedated for four weeks to help with his withdrawal symptoms and reduce the risk of further attacks,” according to the clinic’s Facebook page.
They also state in the text that they don’t know exactly how the whole cocoa addiction situation happened.
After all the treatments, Coco recovered and no longer needed medication. However, the dog is not yet ready for adoption because he has strong episodes of anxiety.
