So far, Roku’s strategy has been to gradually change its home screen. For example, I listed the categories Must Watch and Free Highlights, but today’s big news is a section dedicated to sports. With the novelty, it is possible to watch live matches and choose a specific tournament or sport. When looking for new options, Roku offers options for streaming content. So no more clicking through multiple channels or trying to figure out where to play the game.

Among the services Roku cited were Apple TV, DirecTV, Fox Sports, FuboTV, Paramount Plus, Peacock, Amazon Prime Video, Sling, The Roku Channel, TNT, TBS, and truTV. Remember, Thursday Night Football will be shown on Prime and Apple will stream Major League Soccer games.

In a statement, the company confirmed that it is seeking “deeper and more sports-friendly integration into other platform features, such as Roku Search, Roku Voice, Sports Zone, and more.” Additionally, streaming lags behind Apple TV in not providing live score updates — but that appears to be about to change, according to the company’s director of live content and sports, Alex Hill.

Other features that Roku has launched recently are Discover, The Buzz, a Continue Watching section, and a platform-wide Save List for creating a watch list of shows and movies from various apps.

The company has also made more free sports content available, like the Emmy-nominated sports and entertainment talk show The Rich Eisen Show, now on The Roku Channel, and the new Roku Original series Emeril Tailgates, where Emeril Lagasse discovers and creates new recipes for your next big game.
