According to the mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes, the Federal Mobility Law does not authorize this type of transportation, and he cited Decree 62144/2023 as support for the comment.

The decree was approved this year, with the aim of containing Uber Moto, which aims to provide service on motorcycles. For Nunes, there is no way to guarantee safety in this type of vehicle. However, the decree did not mention tricycles or other types of vehicles.

The service was suspended by Grilo last Friday (21st), and the process began on April 13th. 20 tuk-tuks have been put into operation in the capital, São Paulo, in the areas of Avenida Paulista, Consolaço, Bella Vista and 23 de Mayo.

The City Hall of São Paulo indicates that registration for this type of service is only permitted for vehicles classified as cars, whose drivers have a driving permit, i.e. driver’s license in category B.
