Viih Tube’s daughter gets a star
The influencer Viih Tube posted on social networks an unusual gift that her daughter Lua received: a star (See the video above). The truth is that buying or winning a star from the sky is something that is apparently available to anyone who is willing – and has the funds – to spend an amount that can exceed R$500, depending on the package chosen. despite of, The purchase has no scientific or astronomical value.
According to the International Astronomical Union (IAU), there are companies that offer to sell and name the names of stars for a fee. The scientific organization explains, however, that “such names have no formal or official legitimacy” and that “no one can actually own a star.”
The IAU is the only institution that officially names stars. It was established in 1919 with the goal of “promoting and protecting astronomy in all its aspects (including research, communication, education and development) through international cooperation”.
Marketing stars
The organization stresses on its website that it has nothing to do with the commercial practice of “selling” stars, planets, or stars in the solar system, and says:
“Like many of the best things in life, the beauty of the night sky is not for sale—it’s free for all to enjoy. Plus, the night sky belongs to everyone.”
However, people around the world are still interested in obtaining an “international certificate” of the star’s alleged recording. In addition, there are different packages that offer star charts, books, and more.
Star marketing offers to name the stars, indicates to the customer the location of the “purchased product” and teaches how to locate it in the sky.
