Known as the largest and most traditional classical music event in Latin America, Campos do Jordão Winter Festival reaches its 53rd edition in 2023.

The artistic program takes place from 1 to 30 July and will be distributed between the cities of Campos do Jordão – in three stages – and Sala São Paulo.

The festival is implemented by Fundação Osesp and the State Government of São Paulo, through the Secretariat for Culture and Creative Economy.

There will be more than 60 concerts, all free, divided over three locations in the city of Serra da Mantiqueira:

Claudio Santoro Auditorium (Shows from Friday to Sunday);

Capivari Park (Saturday and Sunday) ;

St. Peter’s ChurchLocated in Boa Vista Palace (Saturday and Sunday).

a Sao Paulo Room It will also have a schedule of presentations, distributed between the Coro Room (from Tuesday to Thursday, with an emphasis on performances by festival artists) and the Concert Hall (on Saturday and Sunday).

The following stand out in the artistic program at Campos do Jordao:

– Concerts of the Symphony Orchestra of the State of Sao Paulo – Oasis at the Opening (with its musical director Thierry Fisher and British pianist Stephen Hogg, July 1st).

– On the penultimate day of the event you will return (with Mexican conductor Alondra de la Parra and Brazilian-American cellist Gabriel Martins, on July 29);

– Minas Gerais Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Fabio Michetti to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Rachmaninoff (7/7);

– Orquestra Filarmônica de Goiás, conducted by Neil Thompson, in a program with Brazilian composers (July 15);

– Camerata Antica in Curitiba, with orchestra and choir translating Joshua’s oratorio, by Handel (July 28).

A variety of São Paulo groups also participate, including the Youth Orchestra of the State of São Paulo and:

– Orquestra Experimental de Repertório, Theatro São Pedro Orchestra, Osusp, Symphony Orchestra of Campinas, GRU Symphony Orchestra.

In the educational unit, the festival will host a total of 135 students and 42 teachers. Scholarship holders will, in this edition, receive two weeks of orchestral practice and two weeks of chamber music.

The event receives two big names from the UK:

Brodsky Quartetwhich touches the integral of 15 String Quartet Shostakovich with students;

Fifth Wind London WindsThose who stay for a week participate in educational and artistic activities.

The two guests will be the German Henrik Schaefer and the Indonesian Rebecca Tung, who finish the program before Orchestra festival With the world premiere of the work of Rafael Marino Arcaro and Fiddle Fifth Symphony by Mahler.

Fellows will also work on a program that includes the Brazilian premiere of Mechanic balletby George Antheil, W Why Knoxby Stravinsky, with the participation of Paulistano’s choir and four pianos, conducted by the German-based Brazilian Paulo Alvares.

The following students will perform at Parque Capivari in front of the GRU Sinfônica.

Sala São Paulo will also hold good concerts on weekends, such as:

Finally, there will be the traditional delivery Elizar de Carvalho Awardwhose name honors the maestro who created the Campos do Jordão Festival and celebrates the most outstanding scholarship musician at the event.

The emblematic Hotel Toriba will be a partner of the festival for many years and will have a parallel program of 16 concerts divided between Palco Scenico and Sala da Lareira.

Awards and scholarships

The Eleazar de Carvalho Prize will be given to the most distinguished researcher in this edition.

He will be awarded a scholarship of $1,400,000 per month to study for up to nine months at a foreign institution of his choice, in addition to covering the expenses of transfers between Brazil and abroad.

The Osesp Foundation may reward other scholars who stand out during activities with scholarships at the Osesp Academy of Music.
