This weekend’s Formula E race will have a double lap through the streets of Rome, the Eternal City. The favorite track for most drivers in the world of electric cars, the Cittadino dell’EUR circuit could be a great opportunity for Brazilians Lucas di Grassi (Mahindra Racing) and Sérgio Sette Câmara (NIO 333 Racing) to register again in the competition.
Lucas di Grassi ended his longest non-point streak in Formula E history at Portland, finishing the North American race in seventh place and earning six points, making several overtakes and showing development for the Indian team car.
“We got six points in Portland, a P7 class that wasn’t given to us but we got it, with many overtakings. We had a lot of energy and made an important step in the development of the car, so it’s good to get to Rome after this moment, given the difficulties we’ve had.” We faced it all season.”
The Formula E Season 3 Champion stood on the podium in Rome at the Eternal City’s first series opener in Season 4. After that, he could no longer finish in the top three in the races held in the Italian capital. At the moment Di Grassi is in 14th place with 24 points and it is believed that the team will have difficulties again this weekend, due to the characteristics of the Circuito Cittadino dell’EUR.
“I don’t think this track is in our favor. It’s a circuit completely opposite to what we’re having in Portland. Rome is a street circuit, with high corners and lots of bumps and bumps. It’s going to be tough to steer the GEN3, especially with the heat you get here. It’s all going to have Great influence on preparing the car for this weekend.”
Sergio Sete Camara, in turn, did not have an encouraging weekend and who knows in Rome, he will be able to return to scoring in this category. The driver from Minas Gerais expects the NIO 333 racing car to perform well on the streets of the Eternal City.
“The trend is for our car to do better here in Rome than in Portland for example. Our car is very good at braking, the circuit has tight corners and our car turns really fast. So the trend is for us to do better here, but we’ll only have a real idea when Training begins.
Up to the moment, Sérgio Sette Câmara has only scored in Hyderabad, India, and at the moment he is in 19th place with 10 points. The Brazilian is hoping to get back into the top 10 in one of the four remaining races of the season.
“Of course our aim is to score. So far I have only managed to score once in the Hyderabad sprint. Well that was a lot of points at once, as I finished fifth on that occasion and got ten points, which is already a lot more than what I got in Last season, but it was only one time, and I don’t want to be tagged. Just for a good run. I want to score in this last stage of the tournament.”
The double round of Formula E in Rome will take place on Saturday (15th) and Sunday (16th) with rounds 13 and 14 of Season 9 at the Cittadino dell’EUR circuit. This will be the penultimate stage of the championship, as the remaining two stages will also be a double Tour, in London, UK, finishing with 16 eprix in total.
