Born in Recife on August 20, 1990, Felipe will contest his seventh World Cup at the age of 32 in a city he knows well. The native of Pernambuco has already lived in the English municipality for two years and has been training at the Manchester Aquatic Centre, which will host the event’s trials from July 31 to August 6.

“It’s a very cool city [risos], but now it will be hot because it is summer in Europe. It has many career and leisure options. For football lovers, there are two major clubs. I consider Manchester my second home. I look forward to coming back. To date, I represent the Manchester Aquatic Swimming Team (COMAST). I’m in touch with the people there,” said Felipe, who was born with clubfoot and started Parasports in 2008.
For the athlete, the responsibility of being the biggest medalist in the current representative world championship is not a pressure. “I face this fact [de ser o maior medalhista] Like a satisfaction. It is proof that the obligation has been fulfilled. Every time we step into the water to represent Brazil, we know we have to do our best. It’s the result of training and the effort we put in every day”, Felipe continued to evaluate, “other swimmers are getting more medals, which shows the development of Paralympic sport in our country”.
In Manchester, initially, the man from Pernambuco will compete in the 50m and 100m freestyles. He still has a chance to swim in the 4x100m freestyle relay – 34 points. “I am calm and happy. Knowing that, from my experience, the pressure for results increases. Maturity makes us enjoy every second lightly. In competition, we try to practice what we practice. The Brazilian Paralympic swimming team is concentrated in Rio Mayor. Portugal are due to arrive in Manchester next Friday, the 28th.
The Manchester Paralympic Swimming World Championships begin on July 31 and conclude on August 6. They will represent the Brazilian team 29 athletes from 10 states (CE, MG, PA, PE, PR, RJ, RN, RS, SC and SP), 15 were females (51.7%) and 14 were males (48.3%).
The mean age was 28.2 years. The youngest swimmer is Samuel de Oliveira, 17, from São Paulo, born on August 28, 2005, and the oldest swimmer is Susana Schnardorff, 55, who was born on October 12, 1967.
Further, Five athletes (17.2%) are current world record holders: Carol Santiago, class S12, low vision; Gabriel Arajo (S2, physical-motor impairment); Gabriel Bandera (S14, intellectual disability); Samuel Oliveira (S5, physical-motor impairment) and Talisson Glock (S6, physical-motor impairment). In total, five Brazilians own nine of the best brands on the planet. However, only these three events will be on the program for the event in Manchester: the 50m freestyle S12 class, the 100m butterfly and the 200m medley class S14.
Regarding disabilities, the representative group consisted of five swimmers with visual impairments (17.2%), five with intellectual disabilities (17.2%) and 19 with physical-motor disabilities (65.6%).
The composition of the Brazilian delegation is based on 21 swimmers who have achieved the codes set by the CPB in two selected: Open International Swimming And this 1st National Stage of the Caixa Lotteries Circuit. Both competitions were held this year at the Paralympic Training Center in Sao Paulo. Also, eight other swimmers were invited for their minimum World Qualification Index (MQS) and best marks in the relay.
In the last edition of the Swimming World Cup in Madeira Island, Portugal in June last year, Brazil is third with 53 medals including 19 gold, 10 silver and 24 bronze.
