American Bully XL dogs are to be added to the list of banned dogs in England and Wales, making it illegal to keep dogs without a permit from February 1 next year.

From January, dogs will also have to wear muzzles and collars in public.According to the BBC, owners will have longer to ensure dogs are neutered and microchipped. This decision was already taken by the British. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak after a series of attacks. The breed was responsible for more than half of fatal attacks in the UK last year.

American Bully XLs were originally bred from American Pit Bull Terriers and American Staffordshire Terriers and first appeared in the country in 2014 or 2015, with numbers growing rapidly in recent years.

However, many British animal welfare organisations, including the RSPCA (a Society for the Promotion of Animal Welfare), have said that banning specific dog breeds is not the solution.

In a joint statement, the associations blamed “irresponsible breeding and ownership”, revealing that the government should focus on “regulating regulations and promoting responsible ownership and training”.
