British Sports Minister Stuart Andrew will wear the rainbow-coloured “OneLove” badge during the match between England and Wales, on Tuesday (29), within the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

FIFA banned players from using this accessory during the World Cup.

England and Wales are among seven European countries that have abandoned plans to carry the anti-discrimination symbol after being threatened with sporting sanctions by FIFA.

British Home Secretary Nancy Weiser wore a “OneLove” badge while sitting next to FIFA President Gianni Infantino during Germany’s 2-1 defeat to Japan.

Homosexuality is illegal in Qatar. Several fans reported that stadium security confiscated rainbow-colored items during group stage matches.

Minister Andrew, who is gay, said in an interview with ITV News: “Without a doubt, I will wear the OneLove badge.”

He added, “I want to show support, and I was happy to see the German minister who attended the match wearing this uniform. I think it is important to do that.” (AFP)
