The Ciara government, through the State Department of Health (Sesa), has issued an alert to prevent the entry of the Indian type of Coronavirus (B.1.617) into the state. According to a technical note, travelers from regions with Indian ancestry must comply with quarantine and take Covid-19 tests before traveling within Ceará. The text was published by volume last Friday 14.

Another guiding principle of the document to prevent the spread of the disease in the country is the recommendation for people to avoid unnecessary trips, especially to areas where the incidence of variant infection is significantly high. In the past two months, India and some neighboring countries have seen a “sharp increase” in the number of cases and deaths due to Covid-19.

The Sesa document highlights that this increase in cases is linked to an increasing proportion of viruses belonging to the strains B.1.617.1 and B.1.617.2, both of which were discovered in December 2020, in India. “The United Kingdom has seen a rapid increase in the discovery of the B.1.617.1 strain and, to a greater extent, the B.1.617.2 strain, associated with travel to India and subsequent community transmission,” the note said.

Last Monday, the 10, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified strain B.1.617 as a variable of concern (VOC). The label “worrying variable” indicates that the specified variable may show, among other indicators, evidence of increased transmissibility or severity. B.1.617.1 and B.1.617.2 were first identified in India last year, and they were detected in conjunction with the further large outbreak of outbreak observed in the country.

In light of the current moment India faces in this second wave of Covid-19, the Sesa document provides guidelines to avoid a possible introduction of the Indian breed into Ceará. The note alerts travelers from regions with a high incidence of variant to the need to comply with quarantine, in addition to testing and isolating them, if symptoms appear.

In addition to India, 46 other countries have already discovered trading the B.1.617 variants. Among them are the USA, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Japan, France, Canada, China, Spain, New Zealand, Portugal, etc. To access the full list of regions where ratios are traded, all you need to do is access the sequence database of Gisaid, a platform that provides open access to genetic data from the influenza and coronaviruses responsible for the Covid-19 pandemic. The list is constantly updated.

Check out Sesa’s guidelines:

– Conducting a targeted and representative sequence of societal cases for early detection of the variable and monitoring of its occurrence;

– Increasing surveillance and testing of persons with epidemiological relationships in regions with a high incidence of variant infection, and sequencing of these samples;

– Tracking the target contacts and isolating suspected and confirmed cases of the variable;

– alerting people from areas with a high incidence of variant to the need to comply with quarantine, as well as testing and self-isolating them if symptoms appear;

Recommendation to avoid unnecessary travel, especially to regions with a high incidence of variant infection;

Report potential cases of infection with the new variant strain or circulating variant of SARS-CoV-2 immediately using the MS Immediate Notification Form, as well as with local Health Surveillance Strategic Information Centers (CIEVS).
