The new agreement on services was signed this Wednesday by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maria Laura da Rocha, and the Ambassador of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland to Brazil, Stephanie Al-Khaq, the two countries.
As a result of joint work between the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) and the Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor), the new agreement provides that Brazilian and British airlines can decide independently. Offer of round trip flights for passengers and cargo.
Updating the 1946 bilateral legal framework, the new agreement contemplates the right to transport passengers and cargo between Brazil and the border of the United Kingdom and a third state, on flights originating or terminating in signatory countries (rights known in the field as “fifth freedom of the air”).
The agreement expands the permission for cargo services operations, requiring airlines of both countries to carry international cargo without requiring the operation to begin or end in the company's country of origin (“Seventh Freedom of the Air”).
The new agreement, which will be sent to the National Congress for consideration, will provide greater legal protection to companies operating routes between Brazil and the United Kingdom, contributing to increasing the two-way flow of trade and tourism.
