A writer from Blumenau has won a major UK literary prize

Writer and illustrator Blumenau Guilherme Carsten won the Book Trust Storytime 2024 Award for “Are You a Monster?” published by English publisher Happy Yak. Announced with the book.

The giveaway is to encourage families to visit local libraries to find a great book to share with children ages 0 to 5. Organized in more than 2,500 libraries across England and Northern Ireland, the program reached around 50,000 children last year.

A panel of experts selected the books based on input from librarians and families. The nominees faced a public vote, which highlighted the importance of community input in choosing the best children's book.

The Brazilian author and illustrator, known for her children's books published in more than 22 languages, has won over readers of all ages around the world.

Among the awards he has won are the Jabooti Award for “Best Illustrated Book” in 2021, the Golden Pinwheel Grand Award (China) in 2019, and the Golden Plaque at the Bratislava Illustration Final (Slovakia) in 2019.

Karsten also visits schools and book fairs and lectures at events related to literature, childhood, education and creativity.
