Harris and the Democratic Shift That Reinvigorated the US Election Campaign

Since Kamala Harris replaced Joe Biden in the presidential race, the American debate has taken a new turn. After four years in the background, Harris has revitalized the Democratic campaign and shaken Donald Trump’s confidence, dispelling Republicans’ sense of early victory.

Not only has Harris set fundraising records and mobilized a growing army of volunteers, she has also achieved something rare: uniting a fragmented Democratic Party around a common goal. This internal alignment has provided a cohesive campaign that Biden has not achieved as effectively. Moreover, Harris’s nomination has given the party a sense of renewal, highlighting young figures who have gained national prominence and are now actively campaigning on its behalf.

Bettors, who had previously favored Trump, have sharply reduced Republicans’ margins of victory. Last week, Real Clear Politics showed Harris leading national polls for the first time: 48 percent to 46.8 percent for Trump, up 1.2 percentage points. In swing states like Wisconsin, Michigan and Arizona, Harris has reversed the trend, and in Pennsylvania, for the first time since the beginning of the year, polls show a tie.
