Household indebtedness reaches 68% and sets a new record – news

After six consecutive months of growth in population indebtedness, 68% of households declared themselves in debt in May, an increase of 0.5 percentage points from April. Compared to May of last year, the increase was 1.5 percentage points in the debt ratio.

Bad debt also increased, reaching 24.3% of households in May. The total number of families with debt or delinquent accounts grew for the first time since August.

The survey considers debts to be due on credit card, brochure, overdrafts, payroll loans, personal credit, and modalities of financing, for example. Late payments also record current expenses and delinquent accounts, such as gas, electricity, phone, and school fees.

According to CNC, Mayo’s results reflect the perception of households with lower job stability and factors such as high inflation.
