Brazil received, on Wednesday evening (23), a new batch of active pharmaceutical ingredients (IFA) to produce 5.8 million doses of vaccines against Covid-19. The immunizing agents, which will be produced by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), will be sent directly to the Bio-Manguinhos Production Laboratory.

The shipment, containing enough inputs to produce about 6 million vaccines, landed at Tom Jobim International Airport (RioGaleão) at around 8 p.m.

According to Fucruz, with the arrival of the new shipment, weekly deliveries are guaranteed until July 23. Doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine against Covid-19, produced by Fiocruz, are intended for the National Immunization Program (PNI) of the Ministry of Health.

The Foundation claims that AstraZeneca has guaranteed monthly deliveries of IFA batches as agreed. Fiocruz is awaiting confirmation that the next IFA shipments can be accelerated, as the organization still has more production capacity than input supply capacity.

To date, Vucruz has delivered 58.8 million vaccines to the national immunization programme. Bio-Manguinhos alone has produced 54.8 and another 4 million imported ready-made doses of Instituto Serum in India.
