UK. Boys wear skirts after being banned from wearing shorts at school during heat waves

Following a ban on wearing shorts at Boulder School in Cornwall, St Astell, England, a group of young people decided to protest against the “outdated policy” of school uniforms, with temperatures soaring above 30 degrees Celsius this week.

Unable to wear shorts, young people opted to buy skirts because high school has a policy of allowing anyone to wear a skirt regardless of gender.

The decision is aimed at revising the high school policy and allowing everyone to wear shorts, boys or girls. However, it was not well received.

“They kicked us out of classes and barred us from spending 24 hours with our classmates, but they left because they had nothing to blame us for. We did not break any rules,” said Adrian Cobb, a 15-year-old student quoting a British newspaper.

“We wanted everyone to have the option to wear shorts in hot weather, which also applies to women,” she said.

According to school policy, “students should wear simple black pants made of a shaped material that matches the waist and shoe line” and “finish with a blazer”. The skirts, on the other hand, “should be pleated and taller than the width of a credit card above the knees.”
