A 7-year-old boy rescued his father and younger sister in Florida, USA, after swimming for an hour in the river to reach shore and seek help.
According to the Associated Press news agency, the family was fishing from a boat. The children were in the water, and 4-year-old Abigail was swept away by the stream.
Chase Post, her brother, claims he also left her to continue her life. She was the only girl wearing a life jacket. Then the father jumped into the water to try to hold her and the boy started swimming towards the shore.
“I tried to stay with both of them,” his father, Steve, told local channel WJXT. “I gave all my energy. She got away from me.”
Chase continued swimming, doggy style and floating on his back to rest. “The current was going to the other side of the boat and shore, so it was very difficult to swim that day,” said the boy.
An hour later, he finally managed to get out of the river and ran to the nearest house to ask for help.
Teams from the local Fire and Rescue Department and the Wildlife Conservation Committee found Steve and Abigail more than a mile from the boat.
