Parliamentarian requests support from state and federal authorities to recognize the importance of sport in the state of São Paulo

Deputy Sebastião Santos submitted a request to the Governor of São Paulo, Tarxio de Freitas, and the Minister of State for Sports, Colonel Helena Reis, as well as the Minister of Sports, Ana Moser, asking for interest in the creation of projects and incentive programs and the implementation of a space dedicated to the practice of parkour, and its recognition as a sport in the state of São Paulo.

Parkour, also known as the “art of displacement,” is a physical practice that involves overcoming obstacles through jumping, running, climbing, and other movement techniques. Originally from France, parkour appeared in the 1980s and has become popular all over the world in recent decades.

This practice is already recognized as a mathematical method in many countries such as the United Kingdom, which is addressed in the Sao Paulo State Legislative Assembly, Bill n. 673 of 2021, authored by State Rep. Sebastio Santos (Republican) which states that exercise is recognized as a sport in our state.

Parkour is a physical activity that requires a lot of skill and coordination, as well as being in good physical and mental condition. Parkour practitioners must be able to handle fear, fatigue, and stress, as well as develop the ability to assess and calculate risk.

One of the main characteristics of parkour is its philosophy that values personal improvement and seeks ever greater challenges. Parkour practitioners are encouraged to strive for excellence in their movements and to challenge their own limitations, always with respect for others and the environment around them.

Although it is a high-impact physical activity, parkour is also a form of art and expression. Many parkour practitioners use their skills to create spectacular performances that combine movement, music, and other art forms.

In addition to being an exciting and challenging physical activity, parkour also has many health benefits. The practice of parkour helps develop strength, flexibility, agility, and physical resistance, as well as improve motor coordination and body awareness.

Therefore, it is very important that the state and federal authorities be able to cast a humane view on this group of people, and give them the opportunity to practice their exercises in suitable and safe places; That begins to promote incentive procedures, social integration, and recognition as athletes.
