Since July 17, chicken protein producers have experienced days of extreme stress.
This was the date of the confirmation of an outbreak of Newcastle disease in a rural estate in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul, caused by a devastating virus, highly contagious and with the potential to devastate the entire sector, if not controlled by the authorities.
Since then, there has been a major race to prevent the spread of the disease as well as to search for new outbreaks.
But in the meantime, the shock decision to suspend all exports of chicken meat and its derivatives is already causing losses in the millions.
It was expected that the search would be completed and the next steps would be announced. That announcement has just been made.
