Agency: UN consults Brazil over reception of Haitians detained at US-Mexico border |  Globalism

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has officially consulted with Brazil to see if the country can take in some Haitians staying in camps on the border between the two countries. United State it’s the MexicoAccording to Reuters news agency.

Without referring to the request of the International Organization for Migration – the migration arm of the United Nations -, Itamaraty stated in a note that “the issue has been addressed in talks between authorities from several countries and is being analyzed in light of current legislation”.

Two sources told Reuters that the International Organization for Migration has asked Brazil to take in Haitians who have Brazilian children or who have passed through Brazil before entering Mexico. They say that the first application is likely to be accepted.

The International Organization for Migration, when contacted, through its Mexican office, said it had a “voluntary return program that assists migrants of different nationalities”. The organization said, without giving further details, that “the implementation of this program requires an agreement between the countries concerned.”
