From animation to real life: Scientists at the U.S. Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency (NOAAI found SpongeBob and Patrick from the Atlantic Ocean. A yellow sponge and a pink star – Her features are very similar to the characters in the cartoon – It was recorded during an expedition less than 400 km from New York.
Biologist Christopher Mahe posted on social media the surprise meeting during the scientists’ broadcast and said he doesn’t usually make that kind of connection. However, he assumed they were: “SpongeBob and Patrick in real life!”

Not all friendships between species are beautiful, said Mah, a researcher at NOAA and the US National Museum of Natural History. In another post, he showed a photo of a starfish eating a sponge. Anyway, he said that it was strange that the two were similar in color to the one the cartoon chose, which is not very common to find.
The images were taken in the last week of July during a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) expedition looking into the ocean depths and unknown regions off the eastern coast of the United States. Scientific teams monitored some parts of the sea floor for the first time at depths ranging from 250 to 4,000 meters. In the case of Bob and Patrick, they were found at an altitude of 2,000 metres.
