In addition to talks with Meta, Apple already has an agreement with OpenAI to use AI in its devices
Trying not to fall behind in the race for… Artificial Intelligence (AI)the apple I've approached many companies to be part of their ecosystem – and they seem to want to do business with all of them. Apple will now talk to… Goal, one of its largest competitors, about a possible agreement in this sector. According to the American newspaper Wall Street JournalClose sources reported that the two companies discussed integrating Mark Zuckerberg's artificial intelligence into… Apple intelligenceIt is an artificial intelligence system that Apple revealed earlier this month.
The new feature presented by Apple Intelligence, which was unveiled on June 10, will include the ability to write and review texts, generate images, and a more advanced Siri. The feature will be available from the end of the year for the brand's latest devices.
For Meta, the benefit of the agreement with Apple is clear: tapping into the distribution network the iPhone maker has, with millions of cell phones, tablets and computers scattered around the world. As for Apple, this is not the first example of a partnership that the company has signed regarding artificial intelligence.
On the tenth of the month, the company Tim Cook Announced a partnership with OpenAI, owner of ChatGPT. The idea is to develop your own AI models, but on a small scale. At the same time, its partners will take on more complex or specific tasks, such as those performed by ChatGPT.
According to Apple's senior vice president of software engineering, Craig Federighi, Apple also has plans to integrate Gemini, Google's artificial intelligence. Names like Anthropic and Perplexity are also in talks with Apple to implement their own AI systems, sources said Wall Street Journal. This way, if Apple strikes some sort of agreement with these companies, iPhone, iPad, and Mac users will be able to choose which AI they want to use, at what time, and for what tasks.
This potential agreement is due to the fact that Apple Intelligence, by itself, does not provide a chatbot capable of, for example, performing Internet searches to answer user questions or creating videos. The company chose a different destination.
This is because, for Apple, it makes more sense to invest in partnerships with companies that already have AI knowledge rather than trying to catch up with other companies that have already positioned themselves ahead of the chatbot race. Instead, Apple decided to invest in using different artificial intelligence models to perform tasks in the company's system.
In this way, Apple Intelligence can be considered a kind of “utility belt”, allowing the implementation of not only Apple's models, but also those of partners.
Most likely, if a partnership is reached, AI companies will be able to independently sell their services through Apple Intelligence. Therefore, Apple may retain a portion of the amount paid by the subscriber.
As Federighi mentioned, it makes sense for the company to offer different AI options because users will choose different models for different tasks. “People are going to want to use that kind of quality that might not be part of our core,” he declared.
