Exactly one month after Wimbledon, the most traditional tournament in tennis history, decided to ban the Russians and Belarusians from the 2022 edition of its competition, the ATP, North America’s top body for the men’s class, decided not to consider, in the world rankings, the Points scored by tennis players during the tournament in England.

In an official statement from the ATP, Wimbledon’s decision was said to violate the integrity of the system and classification, and thus, would remove the 2022 points: “The ability for players of any nationality to enter tournaments on the basis of merit and without discrimination is fundamental to our tour. Wimbledon’s decision to ban Russian players And Belarusians from competing in the UK this summer undermines this principle and the integrity of the ATP classification system. It also goes against our classification agreement. Without a change in circumstances, and with great regret and hesitation, we see no choice but to remove Wimbledon points in 2022.” .
