Individual Small Business Owners (MEI) can apply for loans on special group terms. At present, there are millions of MEIs in the country, most of which are small projects in Brazil. According to the data, there are more than 14 million MEIs in activity at the moment.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, there has been an increase in the number of MEIs in activity, because many workers who end up losing their jobs need to look for other ways to continue doing some economic activity. In addition, in the same period there was also an increase in the number of loans to this category.
BNDES has a credit limit for MEIs
First of all, it should be noted that there are many financial institutions that have opportunities for individual small entrepreneurs who want to apply for a loan.
One of the most popular alternatives is BNDES (National Bank for Economic and Social Development). It is important to stress that this is the same organization that helps small, medium and large businesses in Brazil.
In this way, BNDES is responsible for providing a line of loans to legal entities and individuals in the country, provided that they are entrepreneurs and are engaged in small-scale production activities.
In other words, those who have income or turnover less than the maximum limit set by law to set up a small business. That is, with annual revenues of less than R$360,000, taking into account each calendar year.
Loan details
The loan amount can be up to R$ 21,000, however, like all loans, this also includes interest. Therefore, the interest can reach 4% per month.
For this reason, before submitting the application, the interested party must lay out the pros and cons of the application on the tip of the pencil. This happens because a person must be certain before applying that they will be able to afford the interest payments, to avoid getting caught in a debt snowball.
Finally, the deadline for repayment of installments is flexible, and varies according to the agreement signed between the applicant of the microentrepreneur and the bank.
How to apply?
The credit line at a BNDES partner banking institution can be contracted in person. In addition, there is also the possibility of obtaining credit online, through the official BNDES page: https://ws.bndes.gov.br/canal-mpme/#/home🇧🇷
other alternatives
Someone who is MEI and looking for credit options can count on the many other lines available, at many financial institutions. For example, Caixa Econômica Federal allows MEI institutions to request up to R$3,000, with an interest rate of 1.99% per month.
To apply, you must go to a physical branch of Caixa, and hold the necessary documents to prove that you are an individual small business entrepreneur. Finally, Itaú Unibanco also has a credit line for MEI.
