Growth of 1% in the first quarter of 2022, and 4.7% in the past 12 months, wasn’t the only good news today in the economic zone. A survey by Austing Ratings shows that GDP growth, combined with a strong appreciation of the real against the dollar and other currencies, has brought Brazil back into the top ten among the largest economies on the planet.
According to the study, the Brazilian gross domestic product amounted to 1.83 trillion dollars, surpassing Australia with 1.75 trillion, South Korea 1.80 trillion and Russia, which also recorded 1.83 trillion, but it lagged behind Brazil.
The improvement in the economy is still showing signs that it should last longer. According to IBGE, economic activity in the country reached its highest level since the end of 2014, before the “Dilma pandemic”. This recovery has already had a strong impact on reducing unemployment to 10.5% and raising the number of Brazilians employed to 96.5 million people.
Osting’s rankings revealed that a 1% increase in the third quarter put Brazil in ninth place, ahead of countries such as Germany, France, Italy and the United States. Compared to other Latin American countries, only Brazil comes after Peru, which tops the list with 2%, and is tied with Mexico, which also grew 1% in the first quarter of 2022.
