Britain says Putin could prolong the Ukraine crisis for several months

British Foreign Secretary Liz Dres in Moscow

LONDON (Reuters) – Russian President Vladimir Putin has said the crisis in Ukraine could last several months as Britain seeks to challenge Western unity.

“Currently, there is no evidence that the Russians are leaving the border areas near Ukraine,” Truss wrote in the Daily Telegraph. “Russian military expansion shows no signs of slowing down.”

“We must not have any illusions that Russia can prolong this for a long time in a blatant maneuver – if not months – to destroy Ukraine and violate Western unity,” Truss said.

British Armed Forces Minister James Heepy told BBC Radio that Russia was continuing to prepare for a possible invasion and that bridges were being built over the Pripyat River near the Belarus-Ukraine border.

Russia says the West is gripped by hysteria and rhetoric, and Moscow has ridiculed US defense leaders’ claims that an invasion of Ukraine is imminent.

The Russian Defense Ministry on Tuesday released footage showing some troops being sent back to the site after training.
