Charles thanked the singers for a concert in honor of his coronation at Windsor Castle.
Amidst pomp, Charles and his wife Camilla were crowned in Britain’s biggest ceremonial event in 70 years on Saturday at London’s Westminster Abbey.
Sunday’s celebrations culminated in a “coronation concert” featuring singers such as Lionel Richie and Katy Perry, where the royal family joined an audience of 20,000 at Windsor, the royal palace in west London.
In a surprise comedy sketch after the show, Charles and Camilla interrupt as Richie and Perrie recount their weekend experience on American Idol, a TV show where singers are judged.
Charles asked Richie if the singers would stay “All Night,” one of Richie’s hit songs.
“Thank you so much for your amazing performance, and Katie, it was amazing, it really was. It’s a gift to have you both here,” Charles said.
After a weekend of parties and celebrations in the streets, the coronation marks a public holiday in the UK on Monday, with thousands of companies coming together for a volunteer project.
Charles’ son William and his wife Kate visited a scout group in Slough, near Windsor, with their children on “The Big Help Out”. Kate is the president of the Boy Scouts Association.
