Brazil will have a renewed women’s rugby team at the Tokyo Olympics (Japan). Of the 14 players present for Yaras (as the team is known) on Monday (28), four were at the Rio de Janeiro Games in 2016: Halen Scatrott, Isadora “Izzy” Cirullo, Luisa Campos and Raquel Kochan, the current captain.
Coach Will Broderick (English by birth and former men’s team athlete) continues to include Marie Nicolau, Rafa Zanellato, Leila Casilla, Talia “Mulan” Costa, Aline Furtado, Marina “Chupa” Fiofarante, Bianca Silva, Thalita Costa, Ichi Coimbra and Gabriela Lima. The latter two were called up as substitutes. Players come from ten different teams. Charrua Rugby Clube, from Porto Alegre, has the largest number of actors: three (Luisa, Raquel and Gabriella).
The list of Yaras summoned to the Tokyo Games has been released! There are 12 selected athletes, and two in reserve in case an exchange is needed. They all represent the other yaras in our rugby game!
