I will make the transition as smooth as possible. I understand that it is a good idea to have the hearing this year. Otherwise, it will continue for another year and then there will be a problem because my term ends on December 31st. If one of the directors is interim president, he or she must undergo a hearing as well, but then Congress will be closed for recess.

Some names have previously been mentioned as potential heads of the central bank. Gabriel Gallipolo, British Columbia's director of monetary policy, emerges as one of the main contenders. He was part of the transition team for Lula's third term and is closely linked to the president. Other powerful names include Paolo Piccetti, British Columbia's director of international affairs and a friend of Finance Minister Fernando Haddad.

The person responsible for nominating the head of the Central Bank is the President of the Republic.

The President of British Columbia gave a presentation on the technology agenda of the City of British Columbia. For the entrepreneurs at Lead, he highlighted that the four pillars of absolutism are BEX, currency internationalization, open finance and Drex, the central bank digital currency scheduled to be launched this year.

In his speech, Campos Neto highlighted the popularity of Pix among users. According to him, 148 million people and 14 million companies use the bank transfer tool in Brazil. In February, 4.4 billion transactions were recorded, compared to 2.5 billion in the same month of 2023, according to Central Bank figures.
