Charles III was declared sovereign of the United Kingdom

James, King Charles III was officially proclaimed Sovereign of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in a ceremony at St. James’s Palace in London today, Saturday (10). The ceremony was attended by British Prime Minister Liz Truss, six former Prime Ministers – Boris Johnson, Theresa May, David Cameron, Gordon Brown, Tony Blair and John Major – bishops and politicians. Queen consort Camilla and the sovereign’s eldest son William were also at the palace.

During the proclamation ceremony, which was filmed for the first time, King Charles III issued a personal statement in which he thanked his brothers and sisters for the outpouring of sympathy, affection and support they had received over the loss of their mother. The message highlights that the unity received by the new sovereign family is not just from the United Kingdom, but from the entire world.

By signing his oath of kingship, Charles III promised to follow his mother’s “inspiring example” and expressed his awareness of the duties and “serious responsibility” of the monarchy.

Outside the palace, to the beat of trumpets, a crowd gathered to closely follow the coronation of the new British monarch, singing. God save the king (God save the king), for the first time in 70 years, the word “Rei” replaces “Rani” in its stanzas.

On the other hand, gunshots were fired at Hyde Park and the Tower of London, two iconic places in the British capital, while the proclamation was being read.

Elizabeth II, who died on Thursday, reigned for seven decades. The Lord’s funeral is to be held on the 19th of this month.
