Discord will have changes! Check out the new username scheme

Big change coming soon to Discord. The app currently uses a four-digit username system at the end, so two people can use the same nickname. This will change soon.

Discord will remove the four digits at the end of a username, changing the way users are identified on the platform. We will have to add Display Names, which will be shown to other users and can be changed without difficulty.

The change will take effect this month, with users required to choose a new unique username, which will be used to log into their accounts and to add their friends. The display name can be used by multiple people at the same time on the platform.

According to those responsible for Discord, this change will make life easier for users within the platform. You will have a much easier and more practical username to memorize when passing it on to a friend. For them, the current system is “Too complex or ambiguous for people to easily save and share”.

During the surveys conducted with users of the platform, it was noted that 40% did not remember the unique numbers of their accounts or did not even know about their existence. Meanwhile, half of all friend requests end up failing or being sent to the wrong person.
