Doctors concerned about Queen Elizabeth’s health, family reunion in Scotland

LONDON (Reuters) – Family members rushed to stand with Queen Elizabeth after doctors said they were concerned about the health of the 96-year-old queen on Thursday, saying she should remain under medical supervision.

The Queen, the United Kingdom’s longest-reigning and the world’s oldest monarch, has been struggling with what Buckingham Palace called “occasional mobility issues” since late last year.

“Following further assessment this morning, the Queen’s doctors are concerned about Her Majesty’s health and have recommended that she remain under medical supervision,” the palace said in a statement.

“The Queen remains relaxed and at Balmoral,” the palace said.

His eldest son and heir Prince Charles and his wife Camilla have traveled to the Scottish home where the Queen is staying at Balmoral Castle with Charles’ eldest son Prince William, officials said. There are also other family members gathered there.

Britain’s Prince Harry and his wife Megan will also travel to Balmoral Castle in Scotland to stay with queen Elizabeth.

On Wednesday, the Queen was forced to cancel a virtual meeting with ministers after her doctors advised her to rest.

The day before, she was photographed naming Liz Truss the country’s new Prime Minister at her Scottish home, Balmoral Castle.

Truss said the entire country was deeply concerned by the news.

“My thoughts – and those of people across the UK – are with Her Majesty and her family at this time,” she declared.

Last October, Elizabeth spent a night in the hospital and has since had to cut back on her public engagements.

Elizabeth has been Queen of the United Kingdom and more than a dozen other countries since 1952, and earlier this year celebrated the 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne.
