Diagnosis and treatment
In general, diagnosis of the disease involves a combination of health history assessment, clinical and imaging examinations, and in some cases, surgical confirmation.
In the case of pericardial endometriosisDetection is usually more difficult, as the symptoms can be mistaken for other heart conditions. In these cases, monitoring by a multidisciplinary team is recommended.
Treatment options may include medications to control pain and inflammation, hormonal therapy to suppress the growth of endometrial tissue, and, in more severe cases, surgery to remove the affected tissue. Everything is individual and depends on the condition of each patient.
As we’ve seen, there is a lot of evidence of a relationship between endometriosis and an increased risk of heart disease. Therefore, although more research is needed, it is important that women with endometriosis be advised to undergo cardiac evaluation, as well as to take preventive measures to reduce potential additional cardiovascular risks.
Keep in mind that heart health is affected by many factors, including genetics, lifestyle, diet, exercise, and others.
