termination compensation fund (fgts) is one of the main rights enjoyed by formal workers in Brazil. This type of savings guarantees the financial resources of shareholders in the event of dismissal without just cause, retirement and other assumptions.

During the year, the money in the accounts of the workers is borrowed at interest to finance such works as railways, power generation, sanitation, and others. This operation generates profits, a large part of which is paid to the shareholders themselves, because the fund is not for profit.
Law No. 13446/2017 specifies that income obtained during a year must be deposited in the accounts of those entitled to receive it by August 31 of the following year. All citizens who have a positive balance on December 31, 2022 will receive FGTS profit in 2023.
The division is made proportionally to the value the worker has in linked accounts on the last day of the year, based on the percentage set by the CCFGTS Board of Trustees.
FGTS dividend in 2022
In July this year, an estimated R$13.2 billion in dividends was paid out to about 107 million people. The distribution index was 0.02%, i.e. R$2.75 for every R$100 available in the accounts.
It is worth noting that FGTS dividends are passed on as a strategy to protect recipient funds from inflation. Amounts are corrected monthly at the rate of 5.83% in 2022.
