Fernanda Montenegro receives Pope Francis' blessing and goes viral on social media

Actresses Fernanda Montenegro and Fernanda Torres were in the Vatican for Christmas, and on Wednesday (27/12) they shared a sweet moment. Mother and daughter received the blessing of Pope Francis, and a video of the encounter resonated with fans on social media.

The two spent Christmas Eve in Italy and attended Midnight Mass, which is presided over every year by the leader of the Catholic Church on December 25. This Wednesday, at the end of the general audience, they received the blessing of the Pope, who passed in a wheelchair among the line of believers. “God bless you,” he says as he shakes hands with Fernanda Montenegro.

They shared a recording of the moment on their Instagram accounts with the caption, “Amen.”

Along with the many friendly comments in the posts, photos of the big meeting led to a series of jokes and celebrations on X, formerly Twitter. One user wrote: “How beautiful Fernanda is as she blesses the Pope.”

Fernanda Montenegro, a great icon of Brazilian theatre, now 94, is particularly remembered for her performance as the Virgin Mary in O Auto da Compadecida. One Internet user shared the video with the comment: “The moment when Our Lady of Aparecida, at the request of João Grillo, blessed the Pope,” referring to the character.

Fans also commented on the mother-daughter union with the Pope as the “true Holy Trinity” in a joking tone.
