Bruno Loberi paid tribute to his grandfather, Benedetto Rui Barbosa, in Chapter 21 of the remake of Renascer released on Wednesday. José Inocencio (Marcos Palmeira) is angry with José Augusto (Renan Montero) for rejecting “a little piece of land” – a reference to the title of the first of Globo's six miniseries, Meu Pedacinho de Chão (1971), which received a reboot in 2014.
The farmer is angry when he finds out that his son proposed a deal to João Pedro (Juan Paiva) so that he would take care of the land he received in the division of María Santa's (Duda Santos) inheritance. “Brother understands cocoa as well as you do and loves this life more than all of us,” the doctor explained.
Marcos Palmera's character complained, “So many people in this life want a little piece of land in this life and my children are throwing everything away. I have to hand everything over to land reform.”
The agrarian reform mentioned by José Inocencio was one of the main themes of Meu Pedacinho de Chão, which was also shown on TV Cultura. The political conspiracy suffered from the censorship of the military dictatorship (1964-1985).
In an interview with Memoria Globo, Rui Barbosa indicated that the government wanted to prevent a scene in which a character plays the guitar and sings the Brazilian national anthem from being shown.
The character was a maestro who sang country songs in his roadside store and began teaching the caboclos how to sing the national anthem. The Brazilian flag was on the table, because I defended a different nationalism than the one there. The censors cut the scenes because the anthem could not be sung in that environment. This made me angry. I fought back and was able to trigger the sequence.
Renascer was written and created by author Benedito Ruy Barbosa. The first version was broadcast on Globo in 1993. Bruno Leberi is the novelist's grandson and is responsible for the adaptation of the rural saga that premiered in prime time in January. The new version should be replaced by a new plot by João Emmanuel Carneiro in September.
